Emmanuel MCR Dinner

As is becoming more common, Cambridge societies and teams are turning away from the established and expensive photo studios in Cambridge (such as JET and Lafayette), and using freelance photographers to take their formal group photographs. The MCR of Emmanuel College hosted a black-tie dinner, preceded by MCR committee photographs, and a photograph of all graduate students.

After the black-tie dinner, everyone retired to the Old Library for an evening of Salsa dancing.

Cambridge Ballerina Project – Jenny, Natalie, Hanna

The second photoshoot of the Cambridge Ballerina Project, in Jesus College. The main model here was Jenny, one of the dancers I spotted in the recent CU Ballet Show “Sleeping Beauty”. I noticed her potential, even though she wasn’t one of the prominent dancers in the show, and she certainly exceeded my expectations.

Cambridge Ballerina Photoshoot – Luciana & Claire

Having photographed contemporary and ballet dance shows in Cambridge over the last 5 years, and recently inspired by Dane Shitagi’s “Ballerina Project” based in New York, I decided to work on my own project, creating beautiful images of ballet and contemporary dancers in scenic (and not-so-well-known) locations around Cambridge.

This inaugural shoot took place in Magdalene College and St. John’s College, with Luciana and Claire, two of the more experienced ballet dancers in the recent CU Ballet Show “Sleeping Beauty”.

Red Dress in the Meadows

Sharon had been after a shoot with me for several months, and finally found a date when she could come down from Lincolnshire. After a few indoor photos, we headed out to some meadows to capture the golden light at “Magic Hour”. Even though the photos have been retouched a little, you’d never guess that Sharon was about to turn 40.

Guen & Greg

A well-published model asked to do a photoshoot with me, so I arranged the hire of a local art gallery/studio to shoot in, as well as the great make-up artist (Emma Knight) whom I met at the Derelict Fashion photoshoot. Unfortunately, the model cancelled two days before the shoot, so I had to find some fill in models at short notice. As it was the middle of Cambridge’s exam term, most of my model/dancer friends were unavailable, and castings on model websites sadly didn’t come to anything, but fortunately Greg & Guen stepped in to save the day, despite Guen’s imminent exams. Greg was planning on taking some photos too, but has modelled for me before, and was just being fitted with a designer suit that day, so served as perfect model material.

Derelict Fashion

The photographer who introduced me to off-camera studio lighting, Alex Beckett, organised a group shoot at a derelict RAF base. There were about 40 people involved in total, including amateur and experienced photographers, make-up artists, and models/musicians/dancers. As I’d had a shoot cancelled that weekend, I decided to take part, and brought along a handful of dancer friends, who happen to also be excellent models. I’ve done a couple of shoots with Jenny already, but this was Emily’s first shoot, and she definitely exceeded the potential that I saw in her.

Drowned World

A friend wanted to get some photos of her floating in the water, apparently dead or drowned. Morbid, but interesting and unusual enough to try out.
