From the two photoshoots with the Cambridge Contemporary Dance company dancers, this image was chosen for their poster and flyer, promoting their December show to celebrate Cambridge University’s 800th anniversary. The alcoves are on the west side of the Senate House, and made for ideal frames for the dancers.
Senate House Dance Photoshoot #2
A few days after the first Cambridge Contemporary Dance photoshoot, a second shoot had been scheduled at the Senate House. We’d learned from the earlier shoot that “light”, leaping photos looked good, and the main door of the Senate House made for a striking and identifiable background.
I took several more leaping shots on the grass, with the idea of compositing them into something specific…more about that in the next post.

Senate House Dance Photoshoot #1
The Cambridge Contemporary Dance company are putting on a show in December as part of Cambridge University’s 800th anniversary celebration year. The show has the rare privilege of taking place in the Senate House, the university’s main ceremonial building. The show is called “Light Matter”, so a couple of the ideas played with the weightless connotation of the word. I’ve photographed many of CCD’s dance shows in Cambridge, and have produced publicity photos for them in the past.
This one is my absolute favourite
Greek goddesses
The last image was a composite of 4 stacked photos, as it’s too hard to get all dancers to strike their mid-air pose at exactly the same time. It also allowed them to wear the same costume (of which there was only one), giving them a uniform appearance.
Corporate Event at King's College
One of my Cambridge-based web development clients, Adder, invited me to photograph their 25th Anniversary Ball, held in King’s College, Cambridge. The weather was perfect for a drinks reception on the backs, between the landmark of King’s Chapel and the River Cam, with entertainment provided by the only Penny Farthing stunt riding identical twins, Felix & Felix.

UJC CEO's Leaving Drinks
The UJC are one of my web development clients, and I attended the CEO’s leaving drinks. I was asked to take some photos of the outgoing chief executive, Yoni Sherizen, with the new CEO, Ian Kamiel, for their press release.
Balloon Art
I was commissioned to photograph the Cambridge University Jewish Ball, where one of the entertainers, David Crofts, created the most incredible balloon art I’ve ever seen. Some of the creations shown on his website have to be seen to be believed.

CUTAZZ Dance Show 2009 – Move!
I was commissioned again this year, for the third time, to take photos of the Cambridge University Tap and Jazz annual dance show.
Footlights Pantomime
After backstage photos of yesterday’s dress rehearsal, here are photos of the ADC/Footlights pantomime, “Theseus and the Minotaur”.

Footlights Pantomime – Backstage
I was asked to get some photographs of the annual Footlights pantomime at the ADC Theatre, for the University’s 800 Campaign. This year’s pantomime was “Theseus and the Minotaur” – I covered two rehearsals, getting some backstage photos as well as shots of the pantomime itself.

Publicity for ADC Dance Show, "Beauty"
Having photographed the last few years’ CUCDW dance shows in Cambridge, I was asked again this year to create the publicity for the forthcoming show. The show’s producer, herself a dancer, had ideas for the dance imagery to be used in the poster. We worked together to get enough photos of herself in a graceful poise, as well as photos of a flowing scarf, which together would be combined in the final poster.
The poster/flyer design turned out to be one of the most intricate that I’ve ever done, with fine details in the main title typography, smoke effects, floral flourishes, and background textures.
