Cambridge Ballerina Project – Gabby & Helen

I’d seen Helen dance in the CU Ballet Show last February, so I was keen to finally arrange a ballet photoshoot with her. And at a recent dance audition, I met Gabby, who was keen to join in the Cambridge Ballerina Project fun and share a shoot with Helen at the end of the academic term. Rather than postpone the shoot because of the unexpected cold weather and snow, the two were even more keen to model in the snow.

Cambridge Ballerina Project – Sinead

After the beautiful autumnal shoot with Hanna, I arranged a similar shoot with another ballet dancer, Sinead, whom I’ve known for several years through Cambridge’s dance scene. She danced with the Norwegian National Ballet for a year before coming to Cambridge, and has been involved in Cambridge Contemporary Dance throughout her degrees here. Luckily for us, the date we picked for this shoot was yet another rare day of sunshine amidst days of grey cloud.

Cambridge University Graduate Ski Trip

The first Cambridge GU ski trip went to Avoriaz, on the French-Swiss border. The resort is part of the Portes-du-Soleil area, now the largest skiable domain in the world.

Sweden – Forest & Lakes Video

Over four days in August 2009, I visited a dozen nature reserves around South-Eastern Sweden (see my original post)

The sights were so beautiful and magical that I want to share them with as many people as possible.

Cloud Forest Silhouette

I recently had a photoshoot with a dancer, and got some great photos of her in silhouette. Once I had processed the silhouette in black and white, I was then inspired by two of Magritte’s paintings, and here’s what I came up with.

Slapton Sands, Devon

I was in Devon for 3 days, covering a wedding, and the Bed & Breakfast where I was accommodated was only 10 minutes’ walk from the beach, the famous Slapton Sands. So in the hour I had before I was picked up for the wedding preparations, I took a leisurely stroll down to the beach and took a few photos. Here are two of my favourites.

Sweden – Forests & Lakes

For the third summer in a row, I travelled to Sweden for an intensive dance workshop. Unfortunately, I sustained an injury in the fortnight before flying out that rendered me unable to take part. Not one to waste an opportunity (or a non-refundable flight), I hired a car and drove around the myriad forests and lakes in South-Eastern Sweden for 4 days.

In addition to a dozen or so huge national parks, Sweden has hundreds of small nature reserves, all (relatively)-well documented, mapped, and sign-posted. So it was rather easy to hop from one to another, walk freely through the forests, feel at one and alone in nature, and admire the breathtaking scenery. Two main images remain firmly implanted in my memory – forests where every boulder, rock and patch of ground is covered in multi-coloured mosses; and expanses of blue lakes bordered by forests on all sides.
