Photoshoot with Laura

I’d taken acting headshots for Laura back in May, and we met up again to get some fashion photos. This shoot included a couple of things that I’d wanted to do for a while: photograph a model wearing satin/silk; reliably use two flash/umbrellas (wireless triggers just haven’t been reliable enough to date); use coloured gels to light up a black backdrop, providing subtle gradients of colour in the background.

All of these have contributed to a great set of photos, but none more than having such a beautiful model.

Dance Photo on Cover of Cambridge Agenda Magazine

Several images from my recent publicity photoshoots with the Cambridge Contemporary Dance company have been used in a magazine article about the forthcoming Senate House show, and one of the most striking images was selected as the cover image for this month’s issue of Cambridgeshire Agenda.

You can view more images from the two shoots (photoshoot 1, photoshoot 2, image used for flyer/poster, final composite image), or download a copy of the article in PDF format.

Dance show publicity photoshoot

I’ve been photographing and designing the publicity for Cambridge’s largest dance show for several years now, and was again asked to create some images for the forthcoming CUCDW dance show at the ADC theatre in January 2010.

The three producers of the show are all great dancers, so modelled for the publicity photos. I’d wanted to photograph them for a while, and wasn’t disappointed in the results.

Given the show’s title “Signatures”, we had an idea of capturing silhouettes of signature moves from various dance styles. The following is the main image chosen for the publicity.

Striking dance silhouette

This main image (and others from this shoot) were combined for the final poster design . Of course I’m not one to waste an opportunity to photograph such beautiful and talented dancers, so here are a few more photos taken during the rest of the shoot.

Photoshoot with Beth

At Oi Va Voi’s recent gig at the Cambridge Junction, I noticed someone at the front of the audience (well, I couldn’t help but notice her, I kept passing her as I moved around taking photos of the band). I was taken by her striking figure (slim and 5′ 11”), English Rose looks, all juxtaposed with her large, but elegant, shoulder tattoo. We spoke afterwards, arranged a photoshoot, and here are the results. While it was only her first shoot, some of the shots came out really well, and I’m proud to add them to my portfolio.

I’m always looking for models to create more artistic figure studies, so if you’re interested, get in touch.

Photoshoot with Vesna & Paul

Paul and Vesna are without a doubt Cambridge University’s most successful ballroom & latin dancers. Having seen the results of my recent photoshoot with Samantha, one of their Dancesport friends, Paul commissioned a photoshoot for Vesna. The gardens, backs, and bridges of St. John’s are still my favourite location for photoshoots, and both Paul and Vesna were very photogenic. Expect another photoshoot with them soon…

Oi Va Voi in concert at The Junction, Cambridge

I had the privilege, yet again, of photographing Oi Va Voi at their Cambridge gig, kicking off the UK Tour for their third album, Travelling the Face of the Globe.

Oi Va Voi returned to the Cambridge Junction touring for their third album, Travelling The Face Of The Globe. Since the last time I photographed them in 2007, their female violinist and bassist have changed again, but the band sounded as great as ever, if not better.
While they get through violinists at a rate of knots, they’re all very photogenic, full of energy, and very gifted. Just like the rest of the band.

Again, they were supported by the jazzy and very funky grooves of Gil Karpas (see photos of Gil’s set on CantabPhotos).

More Oi Va Voi photos from the Cambridge 2009 gig can be viewed on CantabPhotos.

Cloud Forest Silhouette

I recently had a photoshoot with a dancer, and got some great photos of her in silhouette. Once I had processed the silhouette in black and white, I was then inspired by two of Magritte’s paintings, and here’s what I came up with.
