Photoshoot with Sarah (Castle Mound)

I met Sarah through some of the dance shows that I’ve photographed this year – she was in Perspectives, this year’s CUCDW show, as well as the CU Ballet Show. I’d taken a quick portrait of her a few weeks ago, and was keen to take a few more photos of her. The weather has been rather sunny recently, so with half an hour to spare before I had to be elsewhere, we went up to Castle Mound and took a few photos. I also found out that she she’d been scouted by Select modelling agency…not only does she look pretty stunning, but she’s also a natural model, striking poses like a pro.

Rock'n'Roll Photoshoot

Again, this isn’t one of my photos, but I’m in it, hitting a pose from the Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll routine that I dance with my partner, Emily. The Cambridge Dancers’ Club booked a photoshoot with Andrew Carruth of Ely Photo Factory, and some ballroom, dancesport, salsa and Rock’n’Roll couples dressed up and danced (or posed) for the camera. This is one of my favourite photos of Emily and I from the shoot, Emily getting into the splits as I do a straddle jump behind her. Along with many other people, I wasn’t sure that the photo hadn’t been photoshopped when the photographer gave us the CD, but thankfully one of the other RnR dancers at the shoot assured us that it is indeed genuine :)

Cadenza Photoshoot

I was asked by a friend who sings in Cadenza, Cambridge’s premier a cappella sensation, to take their publicity photographs for this year. They had a weekend-long rehearsal session in Newnham College, and after a bit of exploring with one of the group’s Newnhamites, found a few suitable locations for their group photos. I was privileged to hear several of their songs while they were waiting for a few extra members to turn up. Not only are their performances wonderful, they’re also all lovely people.

Hanukkah Photoshoot

I was commissioned to take a photograph to promote Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, to be used in the Jewish Chaplaincy’s fund-raising campaign. The only catch was that the request came a month before the festival started, so I couldn’t take photographs of the actual celebrations. I gathered a few willing volunteers to light the candles for the camera, the result of which can be seen below, and in the Chaplaincy Board’s campaigns.

Acting Headshot for Rebecca

Another follow-up photoshoot; after my first great photoshoot with Rebecca, she asked me to take some more photos, this time for her new actress headshot. I’m still waiting to hear which photo she’ll choose as her headshot, but the selection below are some of my favourites from the shoot.

Photoshoot #2 with Megan

After my first great photoshoot with Megan, she asked me to take some more photos, this time for her new actress headshot. As her hair is now blonde, her previous photos as a brunette were no longer representative of her. As Megan is now the marketing and front-of-house manager of the ADC Theatre, it seemed a fitting location for the photoshoot.

Portrait with new flashgun

I bought a flashgun, the excellent Canon 430EX Speedlite, to help with my portrait and wedding photography. I’m photographing a wedding this weekend, and from past weddings I’ve photographed know that it will be very useful for formal photographs in sunlight, and for the after-dinner party.

To make sure I know how to use it on the day, I took a couple of photos of some friends.

Photoshoot with Megan

Another day, another photoshoot. Not that I’m becoming blasé or tired, I’m really enjoying taking lots of photos of great models, and practising my portrait photography – something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now. Today’s model was Megan, an actress/director/choreographer, again from Homerton (do they only accept good-looking students?!), and while we weren’t blessed with the golden sunlight of magic hour, St. John’s College in overcast conditions still proved to be a great backdrop for a model with a “great face” (as everyone keeps commenting).
